Charity information

All proceeds will be donated to:
The Paediatric Neuro Intervention Fund

The two centres in the UK for treating vein of Galen malformations are the Royal Hospital for Sick Children & Queen Mothers Maternity Hospital, Glasgow and Great Ormond Street Hospital,London.

Abnormalities of the blood vessels of the brain in babies and children are fortunately very rare so most of my work, and my colleague who covers Great Ormond Street, is in treating adults with these diseases.

Our Neurovascular Research and Education Fund is used to support research, audit and education activities related to blood vessels of the brain. In relation to Vein of Galen Malformations this involves developing a new database for tracking the course, treatment and outcomes of children. We have also started a project looking at the early formation of the vein of Galen. If we are able to identify the time period when the VoG develops embryologically this could be of benefit in looking for possible precipitating events.

The centre with the largest experience worldwide in treating babies with VGAM is at the Kremlin-Bicetre Hospital in Paris. The fund would also assist in staff visiting this unit to gain additional experience.

Research project headed by: Dr. JJ Bhattacharya, Consultant Neuroradiologist
